The cityhas a great history of producing music festivals that focus primarily on rock,pop and folk music from Canada and the United States. The Matapa Music &Arts Organization initiatives, continue to fill a gap in this scene by creatingan annual festival and year round programming that showcases the music and artsof The World: Music and arts that reflects and celebrates many of the culturesthat are present in Hamilton, but that are often under-represented in the artsscene.

To establish Hamilton and Southern Ontario as a VibrantCultural area is the goal of Matapa. Bringing together and creating fans ofmusic from around the world, continues to be our driving force, as we steadilybecomes Southern Ontario’s choice for new music and art.While we love having fun and seeing great artisticperformances, Matapa's philosophy is also political. One of our main goals isto foster the arts, particularly from marginalized groups, by both buildingspaces to feature their work and supporting cultural producers in their effortsto secure a livelihood through their work. We believe that art saves lives andis a crucial form of social engagement.
